SHARE THE LOVE
There’s no job on the planet quite like motherhood. It’s equal parts beautiful, exhausting, rewarding, and—let’s be honest—a little chaotic. Between carpool lines, late-night feedings, toddler negotiations, and the never-ending laundry pile that somehow multiplies overnight, it’s no wonder so many moms feel completely drained.
And while there’s nothing we’d trade for these little people we love so fiercely, the reality is that this season of life? It’s a lot. That’s exactly why we created this “survival guide” — to remind you that you’re not alone, to offer real strategies that can help you feel more like you again, and to show you a path toward true rest and resilience.
Understanding the Exhaustion (Yep, There’s Science Behind It)
Motherhood doesn’t just demand a lot from your calendar — it also takes a toll on your nervous system. From pregnancy and postpartum changes to the emotional load of raising a family, your body is under constant stress. For many moms, that stress doesn’t turn off, leaving your nervous system stuck in survival mode (also called sympathetic dominance or “gas pedal mode”).
One major player in this story is something called adrenal fatigue — a state of burnout where your adrenal glands can’t keep up with the demands of chronic stress. Add in interrupted sleep and a heavy reliance on caffeine, and you’ve got a recipe for full-blown mom burnout.
But the good news? There’s a better way — and it starts with learning how to support your nervous system first.
Survival Tips for the Modern Mama
These simple strategies won’t fix everything overnight, but they can help you feel more grounded, more capable, and more like yourself again.
Prioritize Sleep
We know it’s not always realistic, but aim for 7–8 hours of restful sleep when you can. Create a calming bedtime routine, and cut off screen time and caffeine at least an hour before bed.
Fuel First With Protein
Instead of grabbing coffee on an empty stomach, start your day with a protein-rich breakfast to support steady energy. Whole, nutrient-dense foods can make a world of difference.
Ask for Help Without Guilt
You were never meant to do this alone. Tag in your partner, phone a friend, or hire help where you can. Delegating isn’t failure — it’s survival strategy.
Reclaim 10 Minutes of Joy
You don’t need a full spa day. Take 10 minutes to walk, journal, stretch, or just breathe. A little reset goes a long way.
But First… Regulate That Nervous System
Here’s the truth: those tips above will help — but only if your nervous system isn’t stuck in overdrive.
Your nervous system has two main gears:
- Sympathetic (“gas pedal”) — fight, flight, go-go-go
- Parasympathetic (“brake pedal”) — rest, digest, regulate
Healthy moms should be able to shift between both with ease. But when stress piles up and doesn’t let up, the nervous system gets stuck on the gas. Even when things calm down, your body doesn’t — and that’s when exhaustion turns into burnout.
That’s where neurologically-focused chiropractic care comes in. By gently removing stress and interference from your nervous system (called subluxation), we help moms like you reclaim adaptability, balance, and a whole lot more energy.
Barbie’s Story: From Burnout to Breakthrough
The E320 Team didn’t know any other Barbie besides the fun and joyful one we see in the office each week, but Barbie tells us that wasn’t always the case.
“I was under a tremendous amount of stress and it was manifesting in my body. I had developed TMJ that caused dental problems, I was waking up multiple times during the night, and I found myself overstimulated and emotionally exhausted at the end of every day. It was honestly becoming scary, and I did not see my circumstances changing in the near future at that time.”
A woman of great faith, Barbie believed the Lord would bring her through, but when supplements and other common relaxing techniques weren’t working, she simply wasn’t recovering from the pain and physical tension stored up in her body.
Barbie had worked closely with a neurologically-based chiropractic office while in college and understood how the body could be set up to heal itself. But after seeking care from two other chiropractors and feeling no change, she began to wonder what could possibly be different about Dr. Rhonda and the E320 Team — despite the repeated recommendations from friends.
Having a provider who sees the value in both mainstream medicine and neurologically-based chiropractic care was important to Barbie. So when Dr. Rhonda walked her through the chiropractic-specific x-rays and neurological scans, everything clicked.
“I was extremely impressed with the work Dr. Rhonda did to track down my problem areas. Most chiropractors either don’t take x-rays or the ones that do are barely diagnostic. I was blown away with the email video I received of my scans and x-rays showing me the condition of my spine and nervous system. The attention to detail lined up with every bit of pain I was experiencing. There was instant relief and a release of pent-up emotion when she told me how my body and nervous system were functioning. I felt so seen and understood!”
Today, Barbie says she no longer feels like she’s “carrying around a 50–60 lb head on her shoulders every day.” She’s noticed significant improvement in her TMJ and in both physical and emotional tension.
When asked what her perfect day looks like, Barbie shared, “Family is so important to me, so I would say waking up, having breakfast with my two favorite guys (amazing husband Joshua and sweet little guy Benson), and heading to church to worship with our church family before going to visit my mother and grandmother. Now, if someone threw in a pedicure or spa day, this momma wouldn’t be mad about it at all!”
We hope she gets all of that and more. You deserve it, Barbie.
